Nature in De Panne

General.  De Panne is an exceptionally green beach resort.  This is due to how De Panne grew historically.  When the settlement was conceived at the end of the 19th century, it was designed as a "garden city" so that damage to the nature would be as minimal as possible.  Nowadays, De Panne is still completely surrounded by nature reserves and dunes such as the large Westhoek reserve.  In the visitors center "De Nachtegaal" (the nightingale) you can learn everything about the local wildlife.
